How to Search Media
Please feel free to browse the content collection for all things Xiyouji related! And if you can’t find what you are looking for please contact us with your media in mind and a link source to verify it!
To search within a Google Sheet, use the "Find and replace" feature. Open the spreadsheet, click on "Edit," then "Find and replace". Type the text you want to find in the "Find" field and click "Find".
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (Mac).

Retelling
Media is seen as a close adaptation that tries to follow the original novel. Whether this be a self-contained adventure that happens in the novel or the entire story in length.

Addition
Media is placed within the journey and with the same people, but there is a different plot within the story. Either new demons or new characters are introduced, but by the end, the plot goes back to the status quo.

Reimagining
Media has the same characters and/or in a different plot or a different place that vaguely parallels the story. This could be taking the plot as a different genre or allowing more creative freedom outside the original.

Continuation
Media that continues right at the end of Xiyouji and is still within the same time period as the story. This allows for the same characters within a similar time period but with a different plot.

Prequel
Media that starts long after Xiyouji and is still focused on one of the characters from the story. This allows for the same characters within a modern time period and with a different plot.

Crossover
Media where a new cast is transported into the story of Xiyouji. The plot does not have to follow the Xiyouji plot or any storylines and rather simply has the character within the media interact with the original characters or become them.

Alternative Universe
Media where Xiyouji is clearly being copied and is meant to follow a similar plot; however, these characters are to be seen as separate from the original. The location has changed completely, but the characters and plot are to be at least similar.

Media that has nothing to do with the actual story of Xiyouji, yet still features a character. This can either be a Xiyouji character takes the role of the lead or a side character.

Inspiration
Media that has nothing to do with the actual story of Xiyouji yet still takes a character’s likeness, usually Wukong, and has them take the role of the lead or side Character. This is not to be a character from the plot but just something similar.

Meta
Media that is more focused on forces outside of Xiyouji, such as talking about the novel’s creation or historical individuals who inspired the characters in the novel.

Replay
Media that have characters from Xiyouji go back in time into the original plot and change something. This plays with time travel or dream sequences where the same character relives the past in a new way.
