Summary:
The protagonist of this work, he is a playful and somewhat short-tempered monkey yokai. His main weapon is the Nyoi-bo. He also controls a golden cloud, but he has four of these (more on this below). He wears a golden hoop called a "kinkoji" on his head (more on this below).
When fighting enemies, he prefers surprise attacks and dislikes fighting fair and square. He doesn't feel any shame in it, and in fact seems to find it refreshing. In addition to his Nyoi-bo, he mostly defeats his enemies by deceiving them with sorcery. He also employs legitimate tactics, such as using sorcery to avoid enemy attacks and counterattack, or using the characteristics and abilities of his yokai to defeat them. His finishing methods are violent, involving beatings and punching. He is also quite cunning, and often uses Gojyo and Hakkai as shields to protect them from enemy attacks, but he also possesses a strong sense of justice. He also possesses superhuman abilities, such as grabbing missiles fired by enemies with his hands and deflecting beams of light with his staff. It is said that in the past he wreaked havoc against the gods of heaven, using "dirty magic, underhanded tactics, and devilish weapons."Perhaps because of his achievements, many enemies plot to defeat Goku and become the best in the world. He does not get along well with his traveling companion Gojyo, and while he protects Sanzo and Hakkai from enemy attacks, he deliberately does not help Gojyo, or even attacks him pointlessly on impulse, and he himself admits that "I hate him" and "He's only useful as a way for me to vent my frustrations."However, they will cooperate if their interests align.
