Summary:

In 1941, when Shanghai was in the midst of war, the Wan brothers overcame numerous difficulties and used their rich imagination and self-created techniques to direct China’s first animated feature film “Princess Iron Fan”.

In the late 1950s, Chinese animation began a glorious period. Original and imaginative works sprang up like mushrooms after rain, showing the rich connotation and diversity of traditional Chinese art. The status of Shanghai Animation Film Studio was as important as that of Disney. With the advent of the Cultural Revolution, everything stopped. It was not until the 1980s that Shanghai Animation Film Studio entered its second golden age. This golden age lasted until the popularization of televisions in households and competition from foreign countries. During this period, some excellent classic films allowed Shanghai Animation Film Studio to regain its lost glory.

This documentary allows everyone to understand the production process of Chinese animation and puppet films shown at this film festival, which is very vivid. The Chinese animation experts in Paris made a special trip to interview Te Wei, the father of ink animation, and other old predecessors of Shanghai Animation Film Studio, which is a precious material of the studio.
